Attaining Bliss By way of Meditation

Generally there is only one way to achieve happiness. That way is to merely be happy. You probably are thinking at this time exactly “how do I get to be happy.” “Things just do not operate like that, it doesn’t take into consideration the times in which I am miserable simply because of difficulties or problems that come up in my daily life, not to mention the disasters.”

At this point I have to stop and do some meditation. You will discover that meditation can be done via numerous different approaches, and you must simply find the particular one which works most beneficially for your own purposes.

Staying happy significantly more than you normally do is an extremely challenging task to accomplish – and I don’t mean the mere act of doing it.

However, I say that with meditation you can do it.The path that you selected that has led to your present circumstances was not a couple of days or months in the creating, but a long and strenuous path that has spanned numerous years.

In reality it’s probably taken you decades to grow to be the way you are right now.Takng the time to meditate and think about who you are,and exactly if what you have in your life is truly what you want,

In the event that you happen to be totally fulfilled with the way your life is moving, congratulations – do a lot more of what you’ve already been performing and you will get much more of what you already have within your life.

But if who you might be, what you would like, what you have, and your current circumstances tend to be less compared to what you want or perhaps are so different from exactly what you would like, you have to begin meditating about some fundamental changes you will need to create.

Inability to make those changes will mean you continuing to look for the things you truly would like within your life as the years pass by.

Simply because some of this which you are reading will appear impossible, ridiculous,or perhaps even unreasonable. And it may initially upset you, causing you to make fun of what you might be reading and maybe even trigger you to reject what you might have read.

I suggest to you that before you reject exactly how meditation can help you in your daily life, ask yourself whether or not you need it to be true – then for your benefit please give yourself the chance to discover it to be worthwhile.

In this day and time with all the things we have to deal with in our lives, it can be really hard to stay on a positive level and be happy all the time, However, by simply taking a couple of minutes a day just meditating can help you to keep things in perspective. The alternative of becoming more miserable as you consider your circumstances, when you could discover the way of meditation to find contentment is too horrific.

First Steps in Meditation

Having familiarised ourselves with the basic principles and techniques of meditation, we are now equipped to delve more deeply into the mental and spiritual resources that we will need to draw upon as we set off on our meditation journey.

At this stage, we should recognize that meditation can become a way of life, sitting down and focusing your mind is just a small part of the experience. You may discover that change arises naturally in all areas of your life when you introduce meditation. And although you do not necessarily need to alter your lifestyle dramatically to benefit from meditation, a certain level of commitment is desirable. The extent of this commitment is entirely up to you.

Now we are going to discover, among other things, the concept of “mindfulness”, that is, of giving our full attention and awareness to the thoughts and feelings that take place in our minds and bodies.

For example, we can become “mindful” of the instinctive drives that control our eating habits, our attitude to exercise, or our abuse of our bodies through smoking and drinking.

By fully encountering these drives and impulses and becoming more conscious of them, we take a step toward improving the quality of our lives.

Begin your meditation journey with an open mind and try to have no expectations. Be patient and welcome any positive changes that come into your life through your meditation practice.

Lighten up! Perhaps you have noticed that non stop thinking and worrying generates inner fears that feed on one another, problems get magnified exponentially, and the next thing you know, you are feeling overwhelmed and panicked. Meditation encourages an inner mental spaciousness in which difficulties and concerns no longer seem so threatening. It seems like constructive solutions can naturally arise as well as a certain detachment that allows for greater objectivity, perspective, and humor. That mysterious word enlightenment actually refers to the supreme “lightening up”!

Below are other benefits you can experience from practicing meditation:

Experiencing focus and flow: When you are so fully involved in an activity that all sense of self-consciousness, separation, and distraction dissolves. For human beings, this total immersion constitutes the ultimate enjoyment and provides the ultimate antidote to alienation of post modern life. There is no doubt you have already experienced moments like these; reading, playing a sport, creating a work of art, working in the garden, making love. Athletes refer to this as “the zone.” Through meditation, you can discover how to give the same focused attention to and derive the same enjoyment from every activity.

Feeling more centered, grounded, and balanced: To counter the growing insecurity of life in rapidly changing times, meditation offers an inner groundedness and balance that external situations cannot disrupt. When you practice coming home over and over to your body, your breath, your sensations, your feelings, you eventually grow to realize that you are always home, no matter where you go. And when you make friends with yourself, embracing the dark and the light, the weak and the strong, you no longer get thrown off-center by the “slings and arrows” of life.

Enhancing performance at work and play: Researches have shown that basic meditation practice alone can enhance clarity, creativity, self-actualization, and many of the other factors that contribute to superior performance. In addition, specific meditations have been devised to enhance performance in a variety of activities, from sports to schoolwork.

Increasing appreciation, gratitude, and love: As you begin to open to your experience without judgment or hatred, your heart gradually opens as well, to yourself and others. You can practice specific types of meditations for cultivating appreciation, gratitude, and love or you may find, as so many meditators have before you, that these qualities take place naturally when you can gaze at the world with fresh eyes, free from the usual projections and expectations. Meditation will enable you to open your heart to new experiences.

More Benefits of Meditation

Meditation teaches you how to cultivate qualities and skills that naturally contribute to making you better at your favorite endeavor, whether it’s sports or business, gardening or studying, or simply washing the dishes or sweeping the floor.

1. Flow experience. In sports they call it “the zone”: moments or extended periods when you feel totally in sync with your body and your surroundings. Time seems to slow down, feelings of well-being and enjoyment increase, you see everything clearly as (or even before) it transpires, and you know exactly what you need to do next. By cultivating your powers of concentration in meditation, you develop the ability to enter the flow more easily in every situation.

2. The ability to see things multi-dimensionally. In meditation, you practice witnessing or observing your experience without getting lost in the details. This more expanded, global awareness naturally allows you to step back and see the whole picture, which can be extraordinarily useful when you’re trying to solve a problem or scope out the opposing team (in sports or business) or just evaluate and improve your performance.

3. Mindfulness of self-defeating behaviors. When you expand your awareness in your meditation to include sensations and mental processes, you begin to notice repetitive patterns of thinking and feeling that cause you stress or inhibit your full self-expression. By extending this mindfulness to your performance (at work or play), you can catch self-defeating patterns and then replace them with more productive, effective alternatives.

4. Self-acceptance and freedom from self-criticism. Nothing dampens enthusiasm and inhibits effective performance more than the tendency most of us have to put ourselves down, especially under pressure. Through regular meditation, you practice accepting yourself the way you are and noticing the judgments as they arise. Then, when the going gets tough, you can use your meditation skills to gently defuse the self-criticism as you focus on doing your personal best.

5. Compassion and teamwork. In his best-selling book Sacred Hoops, Phil Jackson describes how he forged a world-champion basketball team based on the principles and lessons he learned in his study of Zen meditation. In addition to focus, mindfulness, and the other factors listed here, Jackson emphasizes the role of compassion. “As my meditation practice matured,” he writes, “I began to appreciate the importance of playing with an open heart. Love is the force that ignites the spirit and binds teams together.” Meditation can be a great help at work or at play.

Benefits of Meditation

For many of the same reasons that meditation helps to facilitate healing, it also enhances performance. Meditation relaxes your body and reduces stress and anxiety, which allows you to function more effectively. It promotes positive mind-states, such as love, joy, and well-being, and encourages the flow of life-energy through the body, which in turn promotes self-confidence and a sense of power and effectiveness.

Below are 5 additional benefits that meditation can bring to your life:

1. Meditation will bring increased focus and concentration. As you become adept at staying on task as you follow your breaths or recite your mantra, you can easily transfer this skill to working at your computer or playing ball with friends.

2. Minimal distractions. The more regularly you practice meditation, the more quickly distractions fade into the background as your mind settles down and becomes one-pointed. Needless to say, you work or play more effectively without a million irrelevant thoughts chattering away inside your head.

3. Meditation will facilitate being in the moment, free from expectations. Even though you may have a particular goal in mind – for example, winning the race, completing the project, landing the ball in a tiny cup 300 yards away, etc, – the paradox is that you’re more likely to succeed if you set aside your expectations and keep your attention focused on the precise movements or tasks you need to execute right now.

4. Meditation will provide enhanced mental and perceptual clarity. One of the fortuitous side effects of keeping your mind on the moment is that your senses become sharper and your mind quicker and more attuned to subtle details which comes in quite handy when you’re trying to do something well.

5. meditation will bring greater endurance and longer attention span. As you gradually increase the length of your meditations from 10 to 15 to 20 minutes or more, you gradually build your power to pay attention longer. As a result, you may find that you don’t get so easily burned out or discouraged when you turn your attention to an extended work project or other demanding activity.

Meditation can help you improve in many different situitions.

Improve your Concentration with meditation

Today we live in a fast-paced world. Things happen so quickly that more often that not, we do not have the chance to react to the things thrown at us. We somehow lose the ability to think things over in favor of lightning-quick decisions.

But it shouldn’t be so. Every one of us needs to slow down a little from time to time and be calm. Otherwise, stress will build up and will affect how we deal with the people around us, not only in the workplace but also at home.

The practice of meditation is a way for us to be still for a while and let our minds become focused until we become calm enough to deal with the daily pressures of life.

Some may think that meditation is a completely religious practice. While it is true that a lot of religions, especially Eastern ones, take meditation as an integral part of their practice, it is not necessarily the case. In fact, more and more people who aren’t necessarily religious get into meditation.

People practice meditation for a variety of reasons. While we already mentioned that it helps us become still in this fast-paced world, other people meditate for health reasons and to attain a higher state of consciousness, among others.

So if you think that life is stressing you out, it’s probably time for you to slow things down a little bit. Your mind is probably too distracted with so many things to consider and to think about. Meditation can help you calm down and let you be stress and worry-free.

Meditation to Improve Concentration

Today, there are a lot of things that help in keeping us entertained. In the internet alone, there are a multitude of websites that do such that like video sharing sites, gaming sites and other websites which cater to our interests.

While there is nothing wrong with entertaining ourselves, a problem arises with our constant need for distractions. Because of that, it becomes difficult for us to focus on one thing.

We do not need to take extreme measures to help us focus. There are practices which can do the job for us. It includes the practice of meditation.

People take up meditation for different purposes and improving concentration is one of them. There are several methods by which meditation does its job.

One is through breathing exercises. Even an exercise that is as simple as being aware of the times we inhale and exhale can do wonders to our ability to concentrate.

While it may sound easy, it can be quite difficult especially if one has to deal with distractions such as outside noise.

Another method is by reciting a mantra. A mantra is a phrase or a sound that is recited repeatedly. For Catholics, praying the rosary is a form of a mantra.

The repetition becomes the center of the meditation to which the person’s attention becomes focused.

There are other more methods by which meditation can help improve concentration. However, the two mentioned above are the most basic and could help beginners start out with the practice.

Breathing and Meditation

Breathing is an integral part of meditation. Proper breathing is required in many practices of meditation and is therefore an important tool to be possessed by people who wish to perform this activity.

The practice of proper breathing while meditating helps a person relax while doing the exercise. Proper breathing is achieved by inhaling through the nose, letting the diaphragm (not the chest) expand and exhaling through the mouth.

Doing this slows down a person’s heart rate which leads to a relaxed mood.

Breathing also plays a significant role when a person aims to improve his/her concentration. This is done by focusing the mind on the act of taking in air and feeling it pass through the nostrils until the air is finally exhaled through the mouth.

While this may sound easy, it can be quite challenging when done for the first time.

Then there’s the method for increasing a person’s awareness. Just like the concentration technique mentioned above, it involves putting one’s attention to his/her breathing.

But instead of focusing on the act of inhaling and exhaling air, it is the sensation of breathing where the person trains his/her thoughts. The feeling of the air passing through the nose, filling the lungs and expanding the diaphragm is the sensation that a person should look for.

Meditation will help him/her feel how it is to be truly alive.

Meditation and Dealing with Fear and Phobia

Every person has a phobia of certain things, be it of heights or speaking in front of people. While most people overcome their fears, some are crippled by it. This therefore prevents them from doing things that they would otherwise find enjoyable.

Meditation is one way for people trapped by their phobias to finally get out of their shell and start living the full life.

A definition of fear is that it is the anxiety caused by a perceived danger. It is the state of mind by which a person foresees something wrong happening either to him/her or the people around him/her.

Meditation helps in overcoming a person’s fear by altering his/her state of mind. There are several ways by which this practice can help people achieve this.

One such way is called mindfulness meditation. By training the person to live in the now, his/her attention is veered away from the future where that person perceives the danger. Besides, it is only a mere perception and such event may or may not actually happen.

Visualization can also help a person cope with fear by making the person imagine what he/she will do in case the perceived danger comes. By being mentally prepared for such an event, the person will be able to deal with the future situation better.

Again, fear is a mere state of mind. Facing it, therefore, needs some alteration in the person’s perception of what may or may not happen. It can be achieved by the practice of meditation.

Meditation and Pain

Anyone who has heard of the expression about the power of mind over matter will easily understand the benefit of meditation on people suffering from different forms of physical pain.

This article will deal with several methods by which meditation can help in alleviating a person’s condition.

Concentration techniques in meditation can help in easing a person’s suffering by keeping his/her mind away from the source of the pain. Usually, the pain is magnified because people choose to focus on it.

If their attention is trained somewhere else, the pain becomes more manageable.

Another method is called mindfulness meditation. This involves being aware of one’s present condition and accepting it as such. If a person accepts that he/she is currently in pain, dealing with it would be much easier.

Then there’s visualization. It could be considered as a form of self-hypnosis. It is done by creating an image of the pain and imagining it moving away from the body.

As suggested by these methods, they do not actually take away pain from the person. Rather, they make dealing with the pain much easier.

This is also the reason why methods like those mentioned should be coupled with the proper medical advice. In fact, consulting one’s doctor is advised before even trying the meditation exercises.

Otherwise, there will be a risk of overlooking more serious conditions that could be causing the pain. Along with the proper medical advice, meditation can help improve a person’s tolerance for pain.

Use Meditation to Improve Your Life

Certain pressures are part and parcel of the modern materialistic civilization. Perhaps you can not avoid them. But there are certain types of situations, which can be managed without pressure. By mishandling those situations, and many times with imaginary fears, you build a fence around you and lock yourself within the fence, throw the key of the lock somewhere, and blame others for your plight! You lose your peace of mind and blame others for it. Remember the fox that says grapes are sour, when it is unable to get at its height!

Meditation is supposed to bring peace to your agitated mind. But your authentic question is how to do meditation? Your each day is filled with many a stressful activities, one after another!

Take a beautiful example. Have you seen the lotus in a pond? Where it is born? In the depths of the pond, where there is nothing but slush and mud. Where does it grow and ultimately bloom? In the very same pond. Do you see mud on its petals? Not even a grain. Not even a drop of pond water can sustain on it. With whom does it maintain the contact? With the glorious, sparkling sun high above, with the sunrise, its petals open. With the sunset, its petals close. It has nothing to do with any other disturbance in any other part of the pond or the world!

Its existence is for the sun. Its concentration is for the sun! That is the way of meditation for the lotus!

Meditation is what it gives you. You know, mind by itself has no existence as such. It is a complicated group of thoughts. Some thoughts are good. Some thoughts are bad. Each thought emits vibration, positive or negative. When the power of the negative thoughts is more, you have stress.

At such a time, you take recourse to meditation, its first hammers quietly the power of the negative vibrations. Those vibrations lose their destructive power and accept the domain of the positive vibrations. You become more and more peaceful.

The very same negative emotions are responsible for various types of diseases, mental as well as physical. Remember, diseases are first born in the mind. After some time, they find expression in the physical body.

Now, you can find a rare agreement between the spiritualists and the scientists all over the world. Meditation helps to tackle effectively the problems of physical and well as mental levels. The individual, who does meditation regularly, will not have stress at all!

Be Positive Through Meditation

You have the ability to create your own mind-set. Whether your attitude is positive or negative, is up to you. The ability to change your environment, circle of friends, and attitude, is within your control.

Just like a computer absorbs raw data, so does your mind. Within your mind a culture, within itself, has grown. Many people feel like they have no control of their own mind, because this culture has become negative. The negativity is a result of past experiences, being in a negative environment, or being under the influence of unconstructive ideas.

Similar to a computer virus, you have to identify it quickly, to avoid letting it spread within your mind. You can also pass this virus of negative thinking to people around you. As a result you are spreading negative energy around, like “weeds in a field.”

Much like a farmer, you cultivate too. The energy in your mind is the crop, and it is up to you, whether it is weeds or wheat. If you have a farm and let a field take care of itself; you will be lucky to have any kind of a crop, from it. This is the same with the energy within your mind.

You have to option to pick quality seeds: Information, in the form of books, eBooks, DVD’s, CD’s, lectures, courses, workshops, and seminars. This is learning, for the sake of self-improvement, and it results in a positive mind-set.

However, your work is not finished, because you must still reinforce the lessons, and keep everything in a focused order. This might be compared to fertilizing, watering, and “weeding the mind.” You have to work at it continually or the weeds will grow back.

This, my friend, is meditation, and one of the reasons why we meditate, in the first place.

Meditation is controlled focus on an object, thought, or task without judgment. This process makes it possible to look at all situations objectively. You can find solutions, turn negative situations into positive learning experiences, and create your own positive mindset. As a result of this you will make new friends, reach goals, handle problems easily, and develop an indomitable spirit.

Remember the last time you made an accomplishment. That feeling, and that ability, are within all of us. It is a formula for success, but you have to take action. Action is something that the vast majority of people will never take. Learn to separate yourself from “the pack,” through education, meditation, and action.

Brainwave Meditation

Meditation has been practiced since ancient times, but today, in the busy and dynamic, even agitated modern world, meditation or taking time for ourselves is almost a must. And since more and more people are interested to benefit from the positive effects of relaxation and meditation, scientists and specialists have become more interested in studying all the aspects of meditation, how it works and how it can have maximum efficiency.

And one of the most recent results of these researches is the brainwave meditation.

How Can You Benefit from the Brainwave Meditation?

The results of the brainwave meditation are the same as in the case of other forms of meditation, but some might say that they are even more intense and specific. There is a great selection of products on today’s market, products that you can use in order to test this new meditation technology and discover its results.

The most popular products are “psychoacoustic” CD’s with a wide range of relaxation and meditation messages that are mainly based on the concept of visualization.

The brainwave sessions can vary in length, but users mention the fact that longer sessions lead to faster results and a better general relaxation – these sessions can last up to 45 minutes. There are very specialized CD’s or audio formats that are focused on various ranges, such as alpha, beta or delta or there are some which are destined to stimulate all these at the same time.

Basically the role of these brainwave meditation sessions is to travel with your thought and mind, to improve your perception to various stimulants, to develop your awareness, and to be able to conduct an accurate introspection.

Besides the musical CD’s with relaxing audio signals, there are various audio formats that are focused on breathing patterns that are meant to relax the listener, based on the same frequency principle. Basically, these breathing sessions that are assisted by an audio format have the purpose to relax the body, the muscles and to slow down the heartbeats, together with releasing the tension.

How Does the Brainwave Meditation Actually Work?

What is the scientific concept that this type of meditating is based on? It all starts from the binaural beats. But what are these binaural beats? Basically, the brainwave meditation or, also called, brainwave entertainment, presupposes the fact that the brain receives various audio stimulants or signals with a certain frequency and reacts, responds to these signals.

The binaural beats have more roles besides the role they play in brainwave meditation – they are used in the treatment of certain mental disorders and other medical conditions.

Brainwave meditation is gaining more and more supporters. Until its appearance and until the appearance of the wide range of products that promote this type of meditation, there were many skeptics that doubted the positive effects of meditation upon one’s mind, psychological life, spirituality and general health.

But nowadays, these effects can me maximized and measured, they can be scientifically proven – and this explains why brainwave meditation is gaining more and more supporters.
